In the early days of the 1950's there were only three practicing physicians in Charlotte County.  Those were Dr. Clement, Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Shedd.  Another physician, Dr. Fritz practiced out in Boca Grande. These few doctors jointly traveled to Ft Myers each month to share in communicating with physicians from Lee, Collier and Desoto Counties.

This group was called the Four County Medical Society. Then in 1959 with several other physicians locating in Charlotte County, it was thought that they should establish the "Charlotte County Medical Society".

The mission of the Society, consistent with others in the state is to ensure access to quality health care for all residents, to share in the expertise of each member, and to present a voice in the legislative arena.

This mission continues to be the mainstay of the Charlotte County Medical Society members.
